They’ve been used around the world by many falconers over the years on a wide range of different birds, from Barn owls to Crowned Eagles and everything in between.
I started making them over 10 years ago after adapting my existing pattern which was a stitched anklet with no lining. I believe the idea came from discussions with a customer who wanted anklets that would be kind to birds with feathered legs.
Back then the patterns were made from card and every anklet was hand cut with scissors, knives, and punches. Since then, things have advanced (slightly) and the patterns have been through several design revisions, each time making a slight improvement to fit and functionality.
We’re pretty happy with how they are now but there is a CAD file in the works on the computer with ongoing tweaks!
