The tail guard in action. This pictures demonstrates how a tail guard should be used. They’re designed to fit over a tail mounted bell, which we always found was the best method of fitting.
It is simple to fit, by opening the tail guard, pushing the leather cross onto the tail mounted bell and then wrapping the guard around the tail. To remove, just push the bell and pull the tail guard down and the guard will just slide off.
These guards are great for birds such as Goshawks that have brittle feathers, but they’re also good for Harris hawks that don’t do well in wet weather. Pop this on anytime they’re on a kill and it will prevent the tail getting wet.
