Nothing beats flying your falcon on a crisp winter morning.
This picture was taken a few years ago, and I don’t remember which falcon it was, but seeing it brings back the great feeling of seeing a falcon circling high above you, gaining height, while the air is crisp and there is snow underfoot.
Game hawking really is an art, and one that I’ve never mastered. But I’ve been lucky enough to witness it done well by several great falconers. During my time in Canada, I went out with Steve Schwartze and his friends, to fly large falcons at game in big sky country. I don’t believe we caught anything that day, but from then on I have always been hooked on falcons.
Hearing a falcon coming out of the sky “fizzing” on it’s way down is something you’ll never forget.
