Next up under our customer spotlight is Wayne Scoble who kindly shared with us his Falconry journey and memorable moments.
How did you start your Falconry journey?
40 years ago, a friend was helping a local who had a large collection of birds of prey. I offered to help and trained many types from Harris Hawks to Lanner Falcons and an angry Tawny Eagle. I ended up flying my own Buzzard and Barn Owls. Later I was a ranger and did displays for children and country fairs. Recently I have helped train my friend’s birds.
What was your first bird?
A Buzzard.
What is your favourite bird to fly and why?
A Lanner Falcon, just because I love to see them fly.
What is the most memorable moment you have experienced in Falconry so far?
Flying my buzzard at an open day.
What part of Falconry do you most enjoy and why?
Seeing youngsters eyes light up when they see a bird of prey up close.
What is your dream bird to fly and why?
Lanner or Lugger.
For those new to Falconry or thinking about getting started, what would be your most valuable advice?
Get a trainer to help you, or volunteer for a zoo or centre.
